The British Alumni Society was established in 1999 under the auspices of the British Council and the British Embassy in Warsaw, to provide a forum for graduates of scholarship schemes offered by those two institutions. Today with 550 members (both Poles and British nationals residing in Poland, who have studied or participated in other educational schemes in the United Kingdom) BAS organizes seminars, conferences and mentoring programmes in cooperation with following organizations: the British Council, the British Embassy, the British Polish Chamber of Commerce and the British-Polish Parliamentary Group. The BAS also runs Scholarship Programme aimed to Polish secondary school students seeking opportunities of studies abroad. BAS scholarship competition is overseen by the Graduate School of Social Research at IFiS PAN, ensuring proffessional selection standard. In 2013 the Scholarship Competition received Honorary Patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Bronisław Komorowski.
